Traditional is the US list, the long-running traditional list as expanded by US jewelers in 1937; the UK list differs for years 1, 2, 4, 6 to 9 and 10, and we note the UK value where we have it. Modern is a jeweler’s list and exists here for only a few years. Gemstone is the jewelers’ convention; there is no official gemstone list. If a list is not shown for a year, we have no source for it and do not guess. What is the traditional anniversary gift by year?
On the US traditional list: paper (1st), cotton (2nd), leather (3rd), fruit or flowers (4th), wood (5th), tin or aluminum (10th), crystal (15th), china (20th), silver (25th), pearl (30th), coral (35th), ruby (40th), sapphire (45th), gold (50th) and diamond (60th). The UK list differs for years 1, 2, 4, 6-9 and 10: for example cotton at 1, paper or cotton at 2, and linen or silk at 4.
What are the anniversary gemstones by year?
There is no official gemstone list; jewelers publish slightly different ones. The picks this tool uses: sapphire at 5, diamond at 10, ruby at 15, emerald at 20, pearl at 30, emerald at 35, ruby at 40, sapphire at 45 and diamond at 60. Silver (25th) and gold (50th) are traditional metals, not gemstones, and diamond at the 30th is the modern-list pick while pearl is the gemstone.
What if my anniversary year isn’t one of the 15 milestones?
This tool covers 15 milestone years. Other years, such as 6 to 9 and 11 to 14, do have entries on the traditional lists; they are not in this tool, so it shows the nearest milestones either side and our full year-by-year guide covers the rest.
Should I follow the traditional list, the modern list or the gemstone list?
Whichever suits the couple. They are separate lists with no official rulebook, and the modern column here rests on a single jeweler’s list. The gemstone list tends to suit jewelry best because its entries are stones.
Can an anniversary gift be personalized?
Many FARUZO pieces can be. The wedding date (often in Roman numerals), both names or initials, and a birthstone colour matching the anniversary gemstone can go on a piece whose product page offers personalisation.
